Built by a grassroots venue

For the rooms.
For the community.

Grassroots Venues Week is a free national event and practical online resource created by a grassroots venue for the GMV community.

It helps venues, artists, agents, managers and promoters connect around real opportunities—and helps fans discover what is happening in the independent rooms near them.

Why it exists

A constructive alternative.

Grassroots Venues Week grew out of a difference of approach with Independent Venue Week and the subsequent end of our venue’s involvement with that event. Rather than allow that experience to close a door, we decided to build another one.

This is an independent initiative, running during the same week, with a different model: participation is free, the tools are practical and the focus stays firmly on grassroots venues and the people who make shows happen.

We believe a useful national event does not need to cost venues thousands of pounds collectively, and individual venues should not have to pay simply to take part. With the right shared platform, the grassroots community can promote its gigs, open up new routing opportunities and bring audiences into independent rooms without a participation fee.

Grassroots Venues Week is independently organised and is not affiliated with Independent Venue Week. It is not about continuing a disagreement; it is about turning that experience into something open, useful and positive for the GMV community.

The practical idea

Make a national week feel local—and make touring routes easier to build.

The website helps people find one another; it does not try to replace the human side of booking. Availability and useful contact details create the introduction, then fees, logistics and confirmation can continue directly by email between the people putting on the show.
